IPv6 Enhancement

1. Consideration of IPv6 Encapsulation for SFC and IFIT

Publication: IETF Individual Draft

Publication History: 2019-03

Publication URL: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-li-6man-ipv6-sfc-ifit-00

Description:

Service Function Chaining (SFC) and In-situ Flow Information Telemetry (IFIT) are important path services along with the packets. In order to support these services, several encapsulations have been defined. The document analyzes the problems of these encapsulations in the IPv6 scenario and proposes the possible optimized encapsulation for IPv6.

2. Enhancement of IPv6 Extension Header

Publication: IETF Individual Draft

Publication History: 2019-07

Publication URL: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-li-6man-enhanced-extension-header-00

Description:

As SRv6 and the new services such as SFC and IOAM are progressing, more and more new requirements are imposed upon the IPv6 extension headers, i.e.. Hop-by-hop Options Header, Destination Options Header and Routing Header.

This document defines new IPv6 extension headers and corresponding processing procedures considering the interactions among the existing IPv6 extension headers, SRH and the newly introduced IPv6 extension headers.

MPLS Enhancement

1. MPLS Extension Header

Publication: IETF Individual Draft

Publication History: 2018-07

Publication URL: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-song-mpls-extension-header-00

Description:

Motivated by the need to support multiple in-network services and functions in an MPLS network, this document describes a generic method to encapsulate extension headers into MPLS packets. The encapsulation method allows stacking multiple extension headers and quickly accessing any of them as well as the original upper layer protocol header and payload. We show how the extension header can be used to support several new network applications.

2. Options for MPLS Extension Header Indicator

Publication: IETF Individual Draft

Publication History: 2019-02

Publication URL: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-song-mpls-eh-indicator-00

Description:

This document describes the schemes that indicates the presence of the MPLS extension header(s) following the MPLS label stack. After a thorough evaluation of these options by comparing their pros and cons, one should be chosen as the final scheme for MPLS extension header indicator.
